ALFONSO BELFIORE AN ITALIAN COMPOSER
Alfonso Belfiore (Noto, 22 June 1954) is an Italian composer.
He performed piano studies with Antonio Bacchelli, and in composition with Gaetano Giani Luporini and Giacomo Manzoni at the Conservatory of Florence and at the Conservatory "Giuseppe Verdi". from Milan; he also studied organ with Alessandro Esposito and conducting with Luciano Rosada and Gianluigi Gelmetti.
Since 1977 he has dedicated himself to research and experimentation in the field of new electronic and informatics technologies applied to the musical composition, trespassing even in larger contexts, embracing various forms of artistic expression such as poetry, theater, dance and image e.
He took part in multimedia projects developing, through the use of electronic and computer technology, complex interactions between gesture, sound, nature, image and word, also deepening the relationship between musical composition, combinatorial calculation and algorithmic processes.
Is he currently the Electronic Music Chair and Coordinator of the Department of Music and New Technologies of the Conservatory? Luigi Cherubini? of Florence, from 1980 to 1992 he held the same chair at the? Cesare Pollini? of Padua. He is also president of the "International Institute of Art and Technology" and artistic director of "Progetto Fortissimo"
For several years he has carried out research as a collaborator of the National Research Council at the Department of Music Computing in Pisa; in that context he made his first computer music works with the audio terminal "TAU2" (1977-1982), a particular prototype designed and built specifically for research in the field of sound synthesis by the institutes of the C.N.R..
In 1984 he was co-founder in Lucca of the? Vecchio Mulino ?, center of design and production of music and theater, while in 1994 he always creates in Lucca the "International Institute of Art and Technology", with which he deals with the promotion and diffusion of contemporary artistic culture.
As part of the research for music education, he participates in the foundation and development of some pilot experiences such as the Scandicci Music School (1980-1984), the Music Education Project for the mountain community of Mugello, the "Ars Nova" "of Certaldo, the Music Education Center (CEM) of Lucca also collaborating with the Italian Society of Music Education (SIEM) and with personalities such as Boris Porena, Carlo Delfrati, and others.
With the assignment of the C.N.R. participated in the work of two Study Commissions for the establishment of the "European Pole for Advanced Multimedia Technologies": the Commission for experimentation, research and development related to multimedia hi-tech and the Commission for the establishment of a training structure in the sector of advanced technologies for image and sound processing, presided over by director Lina Wertmuller.
From 1994 to 2000 he was invited to New York as a "visiting professor" at New York University, where he held meetings and workshops for electroacoustic and multimedia composition, creating several works for the New Music and Dance Ensemble of the same university (among them? The submerged city ?,? Music for a spell ?,? Interactive synchrony ?, works performed in various cities of the United States and in Italy).
His musical works have been performed in various international music festivals and conventions in Edinburgh, Brussels, New York, Philadelphia, Montreal, Venice Biennale, Rome, Padua, Milan, Florence, Ravenna, Como, etc.
