DRAWING ON PIAZZA ARMERINA ENNA OF 1640

shadow Drawing on Piazza Armerina Enna of 1640

View of the city from the South, ca. 1640

The recent Calendāri â ciaccësa of Lucy Talley in presentation CITES five old drawings of views of our city, of which 3 seem to be contemporary (1612-1641) to those already described on this blog, 2 instead later.

Are all designs that are found in the books written by the priest, Professor and historian of our city Philip Piazza, born in 1884 and died in 1959.
The one pictured refers to the drawing that accompanied the work of history of our city, not received, but often cited by Chiarandā, guardian of our Franciscan convent of San Pietro, Marco Alegambe or stems, dead at Piazza in 1642 (in other sources to Syracuse in 1647).

Is a view from the South, from the floor of Sadique, in fact it shows the Aragonese castle in front and on top.
The mother church is still without the Dome (will be built between 1760-67 by architect Francesco Battaglia Catania),
the Bell Tower appears in the back (perhaps for convenience in the drawing).
The city walls that enclose atop Mount Aims, are quite pronounced and on the right there is a large door, certainly one of the hospital.
To the left of the castle is a large building with dome near another Church.
The latter is the Church of Saint Martin, but the dome?
The Crucifix, but my understanding is built in the early ' 700, perhaps in the time of the design was already under construction.
Top left, almost in the corner, three churches, that of mercy, that of St. Francis with the tall Bell Tower and St Catherine.
