HOSPITAL OF PIAZZA ARMERINA IN 1420
In 1420d.C. the noble Giacoma Villardita di Piazza Armerina Enna Sicilia (aka Vairavan) transfers the Domus Hospitalis of 1142 from Hospital Road, now via Roma, in the North of his home overlooking the Strata Coaming that, in Quartiere Monte (later Church of the Holy Trinity and now houses the municipal art gallery in the picture).
The transfer is due to the inefficiency that creates many health problems.
The hospital in the new headquarters called the Hospital of s. Calogero and of Santa Maria degli Angeli, the presence in the former Church of St. Lucia at the old Castle, in 1238 s. Calogero call by the Carmelites and in 1392 invocation of s. Maria degli Angeli from Franciscans, to the brotherhood of the latter.
The staff is always composed by the doctors and nurses of the order of Saint James of Altopascio who already worked beside the Church of St. Barbara.
Soon the hospital to new premises become primary in the island. Giacoma belongs to an old noble family of soldiers and feudatories lombardi once in Piazza around 1296.
