AREZZO IN TUSCANY

Arezzo, Tuscan province was home to the oldest university in Tuscany and one of the first in Europe. It is situated between the Arno Valley and the Val di Chiana and has a continental climate due to the presence of the Apennines.
Arezzo has ancient origins, was one of the main Etruscan cities together in Cortona, Chiusi and Orvieto then was defeated in Roselle, Grosseto, in 295 BC by the Romans who latinizzarono its Etruscan name Arretium. 
The favorable location on via Cassia held in Arezzo strong importance also during the dark ages in the early middle ages.
After the 1000 to the feudal power, identified with the Bishop who resided outside the city on the Pionta, perched like a castle, was joining a citizen power.
Today is known as the city of gold, the Giostra del Saracino and Guido of Arezzo for the international music competition.
