BOTANICAL GARDEN OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BOLOGNA
The Botanical Garden of the University of Bologna is one of the oldest in Italy.
It was founded, in fact, in 1568 by Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522-1605).
After several transfers he found his final place in Via Irnerio 42, in the heart of the university area. It occupies an area of approximately 2 hectares with a rectangular plan that reaches the ancient city walls.
The current Botanical Garden basically follows two different exhibition criteria: on the one hand, the presentation of individual collections of particular value, and on the other, the reconstruction of natural environments in which plant species are associated in a similar way to what happens in nature.
The garden also features four greenhouses, two tropical - one semi-inlay - and two succulent plants. A small greenhouse houses a collection of insectivorous plants.
In addition to the overwhelmingly educational activity targeted at the University, but also at schools of all levels and levels, associations and groups of visitors, the Botanical Garden has been active in researching and participating in numerous national, national, and international.
The Botanical Garden is part of the University Museum of Fine Arts Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna - SMA.
